Discovery Series Live | The Lost Harbours of the Ancient Coast
Marine archaeologist guests join us to explore the Mediterranean's drowned ports — and what sonar keeps finding under the shipping lanes.
Beneath the Mediterranean’s resort coastline lies an older shoreline of drowned breakwaters and sunken warehouses. In this Discovery Series live event, two marine archaeologists join our experts to tour the lost harbours — ports that anchored empires before earthquakes and silt closed them.
The session moves from sonar surveys to the human detail that makes the science sing: amphorae still stacked in cargo order, harbour stones grooved by mooring ropes, and the drowned lighthouse foundations that still confuse modern charts.
We finish with what it means for travellers — which sites can be snorkelled, which are visible from a deck chair, and how our custom journeys build a day of underwater archaeology into a Mediterranean itinerary.
