Marrakech at noon is a negotiation; Marrakech at night is a performance. As the heat lifts, Jemaa el-Fnaa turns itself into an open-air theatre of storytellers, grill smoke and gnawa drums, and the medina’s lanes trade their commerce for atmosphere.
The evening has its own geography. Rooftops first, for mint tea while the Koutoubia minaret catches the last light. Then the food stalls, where the brave order snails and everyone orders the flatbread. Finally the quieter derbs north of the square, where the only light is lantern-shaped and every doorway seems to be mid-story.
Take a guide the first night — not for safety but for translation, since the medina after dark speaks entirely in implication. By the second night you will have opinions about which orange-juice stall is yours.
